Works in the area of Dock One in Cospicua are expected to be completed by the end of September, bar any hiccups in the tendering process.

In January, then Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat had said that the regeneration of Dock One, which has been dogged by delays, would be “one of the first” projects to be concluded.

Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi visited the rehabilitation works yesterday, reiterating that the new Government was determined to ensure the project time frames were met.

He was briefed by members of the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation, led by CEO Chris Paris, who said that, save any problems in the tendering process, the works should be completed by September.

Last year, the contractor responsible for the delays was sacked on orders by outgoing Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt.

Mr Paris said work on Xatt ir-Risq was completed and paving works at Paolino Vassalli Square should be ready by Easter.

Infrastructural water works related to the dock-head were under way and would be completed in two weeks’ time. These would be followed by work on the dock-head itself.

Tenders for a new garden along the waterfront would be published next week and it was hoped that everything would be ready in September.

Mr Mizzi said the Government would ensure the time frames were met.
