Minister hopes Cospicua waterfront works will be completed by September
Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi this afternoon visited rehabilitation works in the Dock 1 area of Cospicua and said the new government was determined to ensure that project timeframes were met.
Mr Mizzi was briefed by members of the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation, led by CEO Chris Paris. He said later that unless there were problems with the tendering procedure, the much delayed project should be completed by September.
Mr Paris said work on Xatt Ir-Rizq has been completed but, he recalled, works on the Cospicua Waterfront had been stopped when an Italian contractor was dismissed.
He said that paving works at Paolino Vassalli square should be ready by the end of this month and the focus will then be on the road to it.
Water works related to the project are under way and will then be followed by work on the dock head . Tenders for a new garden will be published next week and it is hoped that everything will be ready in September.

Joe Mizzi hopes the project will be ready within 6 months.
And we are speaking of kerbs, a public garden and tarmac.
I am trying to calculate what it is going to take the government to finish the promised gas powered power station!!!

A "new garden" is mentioned here. Recently there have been many protests about the increasing removal of trees from the urban centers. I hope that trees along the waterfront are foreseen or may still be included in the planning. The recent actions concerning the trees along the Senglea promenade show that many others feel the same way as I do.

The previous administration was a disgrace but it is the present one that mentioned September as a definitive completion date for this project -but again no definitive September-hence my query!

This is how things should always be.. If necessary the Minister responsable running after the contractors to finish the job, not give them the free hand to do as they please and prolonge the project year after year!!

Body Language Nul Point!
How can you make commitments on dates when you have only walked in the door to review the project. Its more realistic to tell the public the truth, review being carried out and will update with realistic target dates instead of plucking a date from mid air!

Onor. L. Gonzi promised that the works were going to be ready this March which was the fourth or fifth missed deadline since the works begun. I never saw your comments then!!!
The minister stated that works will be finished in September which is in 6.5 months time. I think it is a justified deadline.
