The former head of Enemalta’s Petroleum Division, Alfred Mallia, has been placed under a bill of indictment by Magistrate Anthony Vella.

Mr Mallia is one of a number of men charged in court over the oil procurement scandal. He is pleading not guilty to corruption between 1998 and 2003.

Taking the witness stand, court appointed expert Martin Bajada presented transcripts of Mr Mallia’s police statements and confrontations.

Anthony Bonello from Enemalta said that he was the executive head of corporate services.

He said that he exhibited Mr Mallia’s employment history when he was at Enemalta.

Mr Mallia headed the Petroleum Division from March 1987 until April 30, 2004.

Chairman Tancred Tabone then offered him early retirement, which he took.

Mr Bonello also presented minutes, some of which were unsigned. The minutes of 2001 were missing.
