A taxi driver who admitted to being in possession of 49 grams of cocaine and almost 1,000 ecstasy pills in October, 2006 has been jailed for seven years and nine months.

In the bill of indictment, the Attorney General said that Vincent Cucciardi’s garage in Qormi was searched on October 4, 2006, when some €3,950 in cash were found together with a semi-automatic pistol, ammunition, a knife and pepper spray.

The police had also found ecstasy pills hidden in the Mr Cucciardi’s car.

In his statement to the police, Mr Cucciardi had said he used the drugs when going out on weekends but had never sought any help to kick the habit.

Besides admitting to the illegal possession of the drugs he also admitted to the illegal possession of a firearm.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia took into consideration the plea bargaining, Mr Cucciardi had done with the Attorney General’s office before jailing him.
