Anthony Cassar, chairman of Cassar Shipping and Albert Mamo, director of the Government Property Department were today charged in court with having on October 24, 2011 in Triq il-Bacir, Ghajn Dwieli, disposed of 25,000 tons of grit.

Mr Cassar did not turn up in court and it resulted that the police had not made valid notification.

Dr Stefano Filetti, counsel for Mr Mamo declared in court that the case should not have been filed against Mr Mamo because Mepa officials knew that he had nothing to do with the disposal of this material.

Lawyer Albert Gauci, appearing for Mepa, said that while Mepa was confirming the charges against Mr Cassar, they expected to withdraw charges against Mr Mamo.

The case was then postponed.
