Floriana 2 - Rabat 1

Floriana eased their relegation worries after netting two quick fire goals early in the second half to ease past relegation-threatened Rabat this evening.

The Greens’ night had started on a bad footing as they found themselves a goal behind after 21 minutes when Diego Carrillo Pendas sent a teasing cross towards David Azzopardi who headed past Floriana goalkeeper Tony Warner.

However, Floriana were a completely transformed side on the restart and they managed to pull level on 53 minutes in spectacular fashion.

Mark Spiteri, a second-half substitute, picked Igor Coronado who showed great skill to direct a fine overhead kick past Sean Mintoff.

Rabat were clearly rattled and their woes were further compounded ten minutes later when Steve Pisani burst clear on the right before sending a low cross towards Coronado who had little difficulty to deposit the ball into an empty net.

Rabat had a glorious chance to take something from the match late on when Jose Luis Armario Negrin broke free inside the area but fired wide with only Warner to beat.

Floriana striker Igor Coronado was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
