The Nationalist Party has asked the Constitutional Court to order a second recount of the 13th district, Gozo, and was last night considering making a similar request for the eighth district of Birkirkara.

In Gozo, the PN said 10 votes for its candidate Paul Buttigieg were unaccounted for, leading to its loss of the fifth seat. After a first recount, the Electoral Commission allocated this seat to Labour candidate Justyne Caruana with an advantage of nine votes over PN candidate Frederick Azzopardi.

The parties had until that time won two seats each.

PN sources also said that in Birkirkara, where the PN and the PL have won two seats apiece, a packet of 50 votes for Claudette Buttigieg Pace (PN) was mistakenly transferred to Michael Asciak (PN).

A seat will be ‘lost’ for the party when Dr Asciak is eliminated while Ms Buttigieg Pace is still in the running with PL candidates Edward Zammit Lewis and Edward Scicluna, the sources said.
