The new-look Labour parliamentary group held its first meeting at party headquarters this afternoon.

The meeting was presided by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat accompanied by his deputy Louis Grech and the party administration.

Dr Muscat spoke on the approach which he would be taking in the apointment of the Cabinet but did not reveal any names.

He explained that everyone would have a role, but not necessarily as minister or parliamentary secretary.

Labour won 39 seats in Saturday's election - nine more than the PN - but a number of the seats still have to be filled after candidates elected from two districts give up one of them and casual elections are held.

Several former shadow ministers and MPs were surprisingly not elected, including Joe Debono Grech, Charles Mangion, Michael Falzon, Luciano Busuttil, Chris Agius, Gino Cauchi, Anthony Zammit and Noel Farrugia.

The new MPs elected so far include Deo Debattista, Etienne Grech, Konrad Mizzi, Chris Fearne, Ian Borg, Godfrey Farrugia, Edward Zammit Lewis, Silvio Schembri, Manuel Mallia, Louis Grech, Edward Scicluna and Franco Mercieca,

Parliament is expected to be summoned immediately after Easter.
