Huge asteroid whizzes past Earth

A newly discovered asteroid the size of a football field passed Earth yesterday  at a distance about 2.5 times the space between Earth and the Moon.

The 330-foot-wide (100 meters) asteroid 2013 ET came about 600,000 miles (960,000 kilometres) from Earth when it passed by.

It was too far away for the naked eye and most star gazers but Slooh Space Camera was able to capture the asteroid from the Canary Island Observatory.

I don't think they've become more frequent but just that we have become better at detecting them.
