Although the world’s working age population has tripled from 1.5 billion in 1950 to 4.5 billion in 2010, talent remains a top concern for business leaders around the world – this has been referred to by many as the war for talent. However, the concern is not the availability of workers; rather it is the apparent shortage of critical skills and experiences that leaders, managers and workers require in jobs that are changing.

Deloitte has risen up to this challenge and is making the shift from being talent takers to being talent makers – the importance and value of putting development and formal training at the centre of all talent efforts is fully recognised.

Deloitte Malta is committed to investing in the development of its people both current and prospective. Cathy Peric, talent manager, said: “At Deloitte Malta we understand and support the connection between the development of our professionals and the delivery of high quality to our clients. Through supporting our people to develop and encouraging a culture of continuous learning within the firm, a truly win-win situation emerges whereby both the individual and the firm benefit.”

The three Deloitte programmes for tertiary education in professional services are testimony to this. These educational programmes incorporate formal training, mentoring, active development and on-the-job training through assignments and experiences. Each programme is designed differently and offers students and graduates the flexibility to select the one which best suits their requirements.

The Deloitte Aca Programme allows students to focus on their studies for most of the year while dedicating just a few months of the year to work experience at Deloitte. The Deloitte Acca Programme is designed for students wishing to continue their studies while working full time at Deloitte.

The Deloitte Pathway Programme targets students from the Fema and Law Faculty at the University of Malta and provides them with relevant support during their studies, as well as offering them the opportunity to gain work experience during the summer months.

To find out more information about these programmes one may visit Deloitte’s BrightStart recruitment event which will take place on March 23 between 10.30am and 2pm at the Deloitte premises in Mrieħel. Participants will be able to attend informative presentations and will have the opportunity to speak to the team of recruitment advisers who will be close at hand to address any particular queries an individual may have.

“As an employer of choice we strive to offer students and graduate a dynamic and rewarding career path that does not necessarily end when they finish their studies at sixth form or university. Our educational programmes allow students to choose what works best for them giving them the resources and support they need,” Paul Mercieca, Deloitte Malta chief executive officer said.
