A Maltese alternative energy firm, Silex Power is aiming to steer the world in a new direction by designing a revolutionary luxury electric car.

It is promising that its Chreos will be able to travel 1,000km after just 10 minutes’ charge, “cruising” at a speed of 125km/ h.

By comparison, the Tesla Model S, the market leader, takes more than an hour to charge and does not reach 500km.

Driven by four powerful electric motors, one in each wheel, Silex claims its car would be propelled from 0 to 100km/ h in 2.9 seconds, backed by 640bhp of power and 4,400 newton metres of torque.

CEO Johnaton Grech, 38, said that he aims to have the car ready for production by 2015, hand-built in Malta and exported worldwide.
