Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday highlighted the importance of the environment as he criticised Opposition leader Joseph Muscat for trying to please everyone.

“You have to make choices in life. You cannot please everyone. You have learnt this in your own lives. You must be sensitive and balanced but you cannot promise everything to everyone,” he told supporters at Villa Arrigo.

Although he made no direct reference to Labour’s agreement with hunters, he said Dr Muscat’s recent declarations showed he was trying to please everyone.

Dr Gonzi also stressed the importance of “giving the countryside back to the people” and assured those present he would do his best to keep Malta as beautiful as possible.

Dr Gonzi ridiculed Dr Muscat’s description of his manifesto as a “road map”.

“If they have a road map, we have a GPS device,” he quipped, before outlining the PN’s major proposals to boost job growth and battle unemployment.

The electorate in Malta had always taken the right decisions and he was confident they would do this again on March 9.

Earlier, Dr Gonzi and Education Minister Dolores Cristina paid a visit to the Institute of Tourism Studies where they were greeted with applause from students and staff.

After touring the kitchens and classrooms, Dr Gonzi spoke about the importance of tourism and the planned ITS campus in Pembroke, which is pending permits from the planning authority.

Dr Gonzi said he was pleased to know students were proud of their career path because hospitality was part of Malta’s DNA.

He said the Government would continue to invest in the tourism industry, including a portion of the €1.12 billion funds negotiated in the EU budget.
