Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this morning emphasised the importance of the environment and slammed Opposition leader Joseph Muscat for trying to please everyone.

"You have to make choices in life. You cannot please everyone. You have learnt this in your own lives. You must be sensitive and balanced but you cannot promise everything to everyone," he told supporters at Villa Arrigo.

Although he made no direct reference to Labour's agreement with hunters, he said Dr Muscat's recent declarations showed how he was trying to please everyone. Dr Gonzi also stressed the importance of "giving the countryside back to the people".

"I assure you I will do my best to keep Malta as beautiful as possible," he added.

Dr Gonzi ridiculed Dr Muscat's description of his manifesto as a "roadmap".

"If theirs is a roadmap, ours is a GPS device," he quipped, before outlining the PN's major proposals to boost job growth and battle unemployment.

Dr Gonzi also said that the electorate in Malta had always taken the right decisions and he was confident they would do this again on March 9.
