Dog helps girl, 3, survive cold night

The story of a three-year-old girl gone missing in the frigid cold in Poland had a happy ending thanks to a dog.

Young Julia wandered into a wood near her village in south-western Poland.

She made it through the night only thanks to the dog who kept her warm -- and alerted rescue workers as to where to find her.

Her grandmother said the dog was the girl's best friend.

"She was with this dog all the time. She didn't go anywhere without it. When she was with me, when I was looking after her, she constantly said, 'Granny, the dog needs to come in the house. And she told me to cut bread and she fed it all the time."

Julia is now is being treated for light symptoms of frostbite.

Gozitans in particular? Where are they nailing dogs and cats? That is what I call cruelty to animals! In Gozo most of the time people finish adopting any dog they see outside!!

This is true but a very selective and discriminatory comment. As many people in many counrties adopt such an irresponsible and callous pet abandonment programme when times are hard.

Well said Mr.Aquilina, but as an Englishman sorry to say, i just do not believe it for one mo. Both as bad as each other Malta and Gozo, you chaps just haven't got a clue as how to look after your animals, only at xmas. time when dogs are puppies, but 6 months down the road, they are all scanvenging for food all over the islands. In the UK we look after our animals good and proper.

Yes Mr. Mead, in the U.K. you look after your animals good and proper , no doubt about that. BUT there is ALWAYS the chances that come up when they are found out of somebody throwing a cat in a rubbish skip and FORTUNATELY, the LADY was caught on a CCTV doing the act. That might be ONE instance of cruilty to animals in the U.K. too. So this human behaviour against animals is worldwide.

well mr mead i too am an englishman and to say that malta doesn't look after its animals is just not true in fact i would say you have to look no further than the cat and dog shelters in OUR COUNTRY just after xmas, we are so much worse than malta. i got my dog from a dog shelter 12 yrs ago and the place was full of dogs brought in from the streets. so get your facts right first before slating malta

Dear Mr Jeff Mead your comment became an insult as soon as you stated that ALL Maltese people treat their dogs badly. So according to you the whole dog population of Malta is on the streets? Thank goodness I know many decent English people and am also not stupid enough to judge a whole nation just because you are English and completely delusional!
