Obituaries

AGIUS. On February 25, at Mater Dei Hospital, MAY (personal secretary to the late Mabel Strickland), aged 92, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sister Gemma, nephews and nieces, Mark and Ann Agius, Ann and David Mays, Christine and John Batter, Tom Agius, Gillian and Del Attwood, cousins Thomas and Patricia Agius Vadalà, and her faithful carer Michelle. Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated tomorrow at 8.30am at the St Rita chapel, convent of St Augustine, situated in Dar Santa Rita, Sqaq Lourdes, St Julian’s, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Sisters of St Dorothy in Manila, the Philippines, will be greatly appreciated.

BEST. On February 24, in London, COLIN ARTHUR of Sannat, passed away peacefully, with his family around him. His funeral will be held on March 8 at 1pm at Golders Green Crematorium, London. BEZZINA WETTINGER. On February 28, LOUIS, formerly of Għargħur, residing in Canada, aged 87. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Nina, née Spiteri, and his children Rosemarie, Ronnie, Edwin and Betty, his only granddaughter Hannah, his brother Francis, Angelo and his wife Violet, and his sister Ines and her husband Tony Mousu, and Mimi, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held in Canada. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

BONELLO. On February 24, at Brampton Civic Hospital, Onta­rio, JOE (Il-Pupa), formerly of Marsa, aged 83, passed peacefully away, surround­ed by his family. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Jane, née Roberts, his daughters Josie and her husband Rick, Natasha and her husband Chris and Maria and her husband Pete, his beloved grandchildren Brandon, Deanna, Ciera, Cole and Emma, his sisters Salvina and Mary and their families, both in Canada, his mother-in-law Margaret Roberts and his sister-in-law Tonia and her husband Anthony Debono, both of Floriana, his nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral took place in Brampton. A Mass for the repose of his soul will be said on March 7 at 6.30pm at St Publius parish church, Floriana. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

CASSAR. On March 1, at Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital, MARGARET, 92, of Siġġiewi, widow of Nicholas, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Loved and remembered by her children Vivienne and her husband Joseph Borg, Godwin and his wife Maria, Carmen, her only niece Sharon and her brother John Mary, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital tomorrow at 8am for Siġġiewi parish church, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30am followed by interment in the family vault at Siġġiewi cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. We thank God for her life and love. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

CIANTAR. On March 2, at Boffa Hospital, Mro JOHN, ex-director of Chorus Philippus of St Philip’s Band Club of Żebbuġ, aged 64, of Żebbuġ, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Rita née Camilleri, his loving daughters Noelle and her husband Joseph Borg and Maisie and her husband Paul Ayling, his sister May Ciantar and Rita Ciantar, widow of his brother Philip, his in-laws, nep­hews and nieces, other relatives and friends, among whom the committee members of St Philip’s Band Club. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Tuesday at 1.15pm for Tal-Abbandunati chapel, Żebbuġ, from where a cortege, accompanied by the St Philip’s Band, will leave at 1.45pm, followed by Mass praesente cadavere at St Philip’s parish church at 2.30pm. The cortege leaves the parish church, accompanied by the St Philip’s Band, for interment in the family grave at the Sacred Heart of Jesus cemetery in Żebbuġ. No flowers by request but donations to the Hospice Movement will be appreciated.

CREMONA. On February 27, ROBERT, aged 56, passed peacefully away at St George’s Hospital, London. He leaves to mourn his great loss his wife Diana, his daughters Olivia and her fiancé Bryn, and Bianca, his son Francis, his sister Susan and her husband Klaus Vella Bardon, his brother Alfred and his wife Theresa, his mother-in-law Jackie Turcotte, his father-in-law Pierre Turcotte, his sister-in-law Anne-Marie, and his brothers-in-law Paul and his wife Colleen, Michael and Walter, nephews and nieces, aunts, cousins, and numerous friends in Malta and England. The funeral service will be held at St Mary’s parish church in Horsell, Surrey, on March 8 at 2pm, followed by interment at the parish cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Malta at a later date that will be duly announced.

CURMI. On February 28, at Karin Grech Rehabilitation Centre, ALDA of Sliema, aged 91, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her only son Frank and his wife Nanette, her grandchildren Denise, Nicholas, Sarah and Petra, together with their respective spouses, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Mass præsente cadavere will be said tomorrow at 8.45am at St Gregory’s parish church, Sliema, followed by the interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated.

FENECH GONZI. On March 2, HARRY, residing in Swieqi, passed peacefully away at his residence at the age of 86, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Elaine, his children Linda Tonna, Deborah Vanhaverbeck, Rosanna and her husband Kenneth Kelley, Claudette and her husband John Busuttil, Harry Charles Fenech Jr, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother Maurice and his wife Blandina Fenech Gonzi, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves his residence tomorrow at 8am for Mater Bon Consigli church, Paceville, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30am followed by internment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Hospice Movement will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

PSAILA. On February 14, in California, WALTER, aged 82, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Sheila, his son Julian and his wife Hiromi, his daughter Yvonne, his sisters Wanda, widow of Francis Savona, and Denise Barbara and her husband Emmanuel, his nephews and their families, other relatives and friends. Mass for the repose of his soul will be said on Thursday at 7pm at St Mary of Jesus church (Ta’ Ġieżu), Valletta. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

VASSALLO. On February 26, MAE, née Moore, widow of Dr Frank X. Vassallo, LLD, residing in Sliema, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Sandra and her husband Norman Formosa, Jacqueline and her husband Paul Mercieca, Harry and his wife Susanna, Mary and her husband Godwin Zammit, Gerrard and his wife Marica and Helen Louise and her husband Anthony Fiorini. She also leaves to mourn her loss her 14 grandchildren, Claude, Frances­ca, Camilla, Jillan, Ramona, Greta, Sebastian, Nina, Anna Lucia, Roger, Veronica, Jeremy, Luke and Tessa, together with their spouses and fiancés. Also her great-grandchildren, Alec, Harry, Jennifer, Ralf, Faye and Adam. The family wish to thank the medical and nursing staff at RW3, Karin Grech Rehabilitation Centre, for their care and empathy. In accordance with their mother’s wishes a private funeral service for the immediate family will be held, followed by a memorial Mass which will be announced at a later date.

FRENDO. In loving memory of dearest ROLAND on the 20th anniversary of his tragic death. Fondly remembered by his wife Therese, his children, relatives and friends. GIALANZÈ. In loving memory of JOE, tomorrow being the fifth anniversary of his death. Always loved and deeply missed by his beloved wife Maria, his daughter Erika, daughter-in-law Roberta, and his grandchildren Isaac and Timothy.
