The Malta Gay Rights Movement said yesterday only Labour and Alternattiva Demokratika replied to a questionnaire it sent to the three main political parties requesting their positions on a number of LGBT rights and issues.

The movement said AD’s positions remain the most similar to those of MGRM. It said Labour proposes civil unions at par with marriage but not marriage equality “for this next legislative period”.

Another difference is the lack of support by Labour to changes to the Embryo Protection Act granting access to reproductive health services to LGBT people.

The MGRM said it took the PN’s manifesto and public declarations made by the Prime Minister on its support for a Gender Identity Bill as the party’s official position.

“This leaves some uncertainty as to the scope of the Civil Partnership Bill the PN is proposing, as the form of legal recognition of same-sex couples and whether it will go beyond what Bill 120 of 2012 put forward in the last legislature.

“This Bill didn’t enjoy the support of the LGBT community,” it said.
