Lawrence Gonzi yesterday urged people to think carefully about using their vote, saying the most important question to ask was whether they would have a job once the dust had settled.

“There are thousands who didn’t pick up their vote, first-time voters and those who are still thinking about it,” he said during a political meeting in Rabat.

Once all the celebrations were over, the question to ask was: “Will I have a job once all this is over?” Dr Gonzi said.

“On March 9, in five seconds you will decide the future for the next five years. Make sure it’s the best for you and the country,” he said.

The Nationalist Government was not perfect but “we worked hard to create jobs”. He urged everyone to pass on the message that their decision would decide the destiny of the country for the next five years.

Dr Gonzi reiterated his party’s commitment to create 25,000 jobs in the next five years.

“When we say we created 20,000 jobs and say that we will create more, these jobs will not be created in government departments like a Labour government had done or by leaving the dockyards open,” he said.

He said Malta had achieved records in tourism and “we will continue investing millions” in this sector. This would mean more jobs and opportunities for everyone, he said.

More students, 83 per cent, were making the choice to continue studying and Dr Gonzi encouraged everyone not to give up and to continue studying.

Dr Muscat’s mistakes in government would bring about bad consequences for the entire country, Dr Gonzi said.
