Gozo’s Junior College in Victoria is to be expanded to cope with the increasing number of Gozitan students pursuing post-secondary studies.

A total of 552 students attend the college which has 72 full-time teachers

Following a visit by the Prime Minister to Sir Michealang Refalo College, where he was given a warm welcome by hundreds of students, Dr Gonzi said the college was a clear example of the results achieved through the Government’s massive investment in education.

He said that over the past five years, the number of Gozitan students graduating from University had doubled and the Junior College currently hosts the largest number of students in its history.

A total of 552 students attend the college, which has 72 full-time teachers offering all the subjects found in similar institutions in Malta.

Despite the fact that some courses are only followed by a few students – the German language has only four – the college still decided to offer the course so that students may be given identical options as their counterparts in Malta.

Dr Gonzi said that work on the extension of the college was already in hand and EU funds would be dedicated to equip the new facility with the best technology. He pointed out that in contrast to Malta, Gozitan students were more likely to opt for the sciences.
