Zewwieqa promenade project to be completed next month
The Zewwieqa promenade project in Mgarr Harbour, Gozo, will be completed next month, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this afternoon.
He was taken on a tour of the €5m project this morning, accompanied by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono.
80% of the project is being funded by the EU.
The project, in progress for several years, covers an area of 18,000 square metres, with a 700-metre stretch along the coast. It includes new paving, facilities for fishermen and the yacht marina and a car park.
A restored Dagħjsa tal-Latini will decorate a section of the project.

Well done! Another project that would not have been possible without EU accession = without PN. Where would we still be at if we listened to JMuscat?? We would be only dreaming and saying how much better other countries are!.. and that we cannot afford this and that because we are too small (makku).

George Calleja’s “ not a question of who cuts the ribbon....but who made the project” - motivation (and timing) projects obey the Mussolini Syndrome pattern - pot-holed squalid back streets with narrow crumbling pavements are left as they are – putting these right is, politically, too low-visibillity. We get these Big Projects like these.

A 500 mtr long project taking 3 years to complete is an example how public funds (EUand Malta) are squandered when the zewwieqa could have been completed months ago and cheaper still and nice .
It is bound to be nice after all this time in the making and the costs involved!
The usual hype is who made it but I cannot fathom why who made it had to render the area a guagmire for this long.

Wow it amazes me how some people who comment on this site seem to be experts in everything! In this comment you showed that you're an expert in distributing funds, in building projects & probably even design! I should congratulate you.....

Cuschieri, people who comment here aren't experts! Like Mr micallef we are customers who pay for these projects.

Another fantastic project that wouldn't have happened without EU membership. Thank god that Malta voted itself into the EU. None of these projects would have materialised without this as no way 80% of funds would have been donated/raised by any other party/institution.

Apparently there was a problem with the draining system which amounted to quite a chunk of the expences in terms of concrete that surpassed budget allocation
It seems that stretching it out this long and with election round the corner was solved by speeding up what was taking years to materialise
Still next month it will be too late a completion I believe!!

Oops, seems that they came just in time to avoid the hundreds of meters of 10 cm of dust that the yachting community have been dragging themselves through for endless years now.
It wouldn't have been nice to dirty all those fine suits.
Ok better late then never, but why does it need to take so many years to pave 500 meters of road and build 200 meters of car park. How patient we have become.

Who made the project: the 20% were paid by us.
