Gozitan students give Gonzi a hero's welcome
Hundreds of Gozitan students this morning turned up with Maltese and EU flags at the gates of Sir M. A. Refalo School in Victoria, Gozo, to give Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi a hero's welcome during a visit.
Chanting "thank you" the students followed Dr Gonzi on his tour constantly asking for autographs and photos.
Dr Gonzi had a light lunch with the students at the canteen before heading back to Malta.

I think the gozitans can show the maltese how to behave more mature. I am sad to see the petty partisan politics creepy up in malta like the old days. And we all thought those days are over. We were very wrong. Partisan politics are alive and well in Malta. :Lets move forward in a more mature way.

To move forward in a more mature way trid tivvota Labour ghaliex Joseph qed jipriedka u jenfasizza li Malta taghna l-koll u mhux ipingi lil hadd la ahmar, la blu u l-inqas ahdar u ghalhekk ghandu dan is-sapport kollu minn kull sezzjoni specjalment l-istudenti u z-zaghzagh. Dawn qed jaraw il-futur taghhom li jkun ahjar taht gvern immexxi minn Joseph u jiena naqbel maghhom ghax se nivvota LABOUR.

Joseph Grech Attard, the PM was given a hero's welcome by the students in Gozo ,unlike the vulgarity that awaited him at the university of Malta because they were grateful that during his time as PM he has given them educational opportunities which were never available before. He has also been an example of good manners and statemanship, unlike the appalling behaviour of many previous politicians.

Valarie s-sigra ta' l-edukazzjoni hawwilha Mintof fil-'50's meta ghamel l-edukazzjoni obligatorja u beda jibni skejjel moderni kullimkien, imbaghad kompla fis'70's billi kabbar l-opportunitajiet ta' skejjel ghola fl-edukazzjoni u fuq kollox ghaml l-universita B'XEJN GHAL KULLHADD ghax dak iz-zmien is-sinjur biss kien jista jibghat lil uliedu l-universita ghax kienet bil-hlas u ta l-istipendu wkoll

Tgħid dawn l-istudenti għamlu dan il-ġest lejn il-Prim Ministru bħal speċi ta' Fairwell Party għax jafu li ma tantx għandu ċans li jerġa jsir Prim Ministru ? Maybe these students made this gesture to Dr Lawrence Gonzi as a Fairwell Party because they know that he has only a days left and a very slim chance in becomming Prim Minister again ?
Joseph Grech Attard
Feb 27th, 20:09
What exactly do we mean by "a hero's welcome?" What did Gonzi do to be given such a welcome? Can somebody explain please? Did we miss something? Did he go to war? Did he save somebody's life? Are we trying to change the meaning of words? What a pitiful and riduculous heading!!

The most obviously beneficial thing that the Nationalist Party did for Gozo was to restore a Cabinet Minister to promote Gozo - and that was only the beginning!

If I were there,
I would have done the same,
and honour the prime minister,
and then, and then,
on the 9th of March,
I will pick up my pen and
do as Muscat advised,
and that is to
change history
Malcolm Sammut
Feb 27th, 19:38
Change history eh? Prosit. You can maybe make history by what you do today but not change it. How is your vote affecting history? Taking us all back to the 70's and 80's and re-write everything?
Joe Sammut
Feb 27th, 19:56
Yes Muscat is past master in advising us to change history.
Gonzi makes history and Muscat tries to change it.

Giovanna Debono's ''reign'' over Gozo will hopefully end very soon!
And Gozitans will be able to breathe peacefully knowing that Gozo's real interests will be seriously addressed.
Gozo has been dying under Gonzi PN; unemployment is bad; manufacturing, tourism inexistent; nepotism and political favours the order of the day. And the environment spit upon just to please Gonzi's Speculator friends!

Mr Grech so hopefully gonzi's reign on gozo will come to an end , and then we will be looking forward to the first ever procejt by MLP in Gozo . Dont hurry to remind us We know you wont find one Meanwhile i wont mention the projects done by the PN it will take a lot of space here Surely you remember the demotion of the Gozo Ministry ?

Each to his own opinion. Shame on whoever says anything bad about students voicing their opinion. Be it PN or PL.
Francis Saliba M.D.
Feb 27th, 16:55
Especially when opinions are expressed with the civility due to a Prime Minister from a Nationalist Party that has done so much and is proposing much more to the student body and its education whereas the MLP made its mark as the destroyer of schools, the contraction of secondary and tertiary education and the abolition of stipends.
Carmel J. Caruana

Dr Saliba, your brain seems to have stopped somewhere far in the distant past. Most of us look to the future. I always am amazed how people who profess to be holier than the Pope find it so easy to twist facts.
Francis Saliba M.D.
Feb 27th, 19:34
@CJCaruana
Had my brain stopped in the distant past you wouldn't be insisting that I stop emphasising the excellence of the tertiary situation of TODAY when compared with that available in Mintoff KMB days, so that education wouldn't relapse to those levels in the future. You seem to be a product of that "education" when you do not understand that I never did " profess to be holier than the Pope"

Feb 27th, 20:49
Carmel J Caruana, I agree with you whole heartedly that we need to look at the future and not the past. But , isn't it true that we look at the future with experience we gathered in the past? and what is Labour's past? why is JM so ashamed of his part's past? HE CHANGED THE EMBLEM THE COLOUR AND WE NEVER HEARD THE PARTY'S ANTHEM. WHY TELL US PLEASE
M Grima
Feb 28th, 08:55
@Francis Saliba M.D.
Besides hovering and digging in the distant past to support your arguments, your memory is either failing you or else you choose to ignore facts. OK, just to make you feel comfortable talking about the past, did you forget the rowdy and despicable reception which Alfred Sant got when he went to debate at the University. But, because is was an organised PN reception its's OK!!
Francis Saliba M.D.
Feb 28th, 14:52

I am not digging and hovering, if fact I do not think that one could do both at the same time without serious injury.

I can totally agree with putting ban politicians from schools up to sixth form level. But university? 1. many students have the right to vote and therefore the right to be informed. 2. If you do not learn how to debate at University where will you learn. and the same goes for MCAST

Hi, J. Brincat, nice to see you are back again with your doom & gloom.
BTW, Joseph is promising to unite Malta and make us all equal? If this country is sent on the rocks, at least we will be all equal and united in misery as ONE NATION AND ONE PEOPLE. but the important thing is that we're united right?
Joseph Grech Attard
Feb 27th, 20:14
Better be united in misery than divided in misery as we are now!! United one can help each other to stand up; divided we shall continue towards more disaster, except, of course, the chosen ones!
Francis Saliba M.D.
Feb 28th, 15:01
@J Grech Attard.
We are not NOW in misery. Misery was when we could not enjoy a bar of decent chocolate, a tube of tooth paste, decent pasta, a cordless telephone, a colour TV set, a computer etc unless it was contraband sponsored by MLP ministers and MPs, and when we could only could drink saline water out of bowsers or use a telephone with undesired multiple connection to other subscribers.

@ Jay Aquilina.
Il-punt hu li f'Malta kemm fl-universita u kemm fl-MCAST kien hemm manipulazzjoni apposta ta zaghzagh li qishom kienu mikrija sabiex jaghmlu show billi minn ferm hin qabel id-dibattitu ikjuwjaw sabiex jidhlu huma u ma jibqax post ghall haddiehor u dan rajnieh billi l-istess zaghzagh li kienu l-universita rajnihom ukoll fl-mcast! Minnbarra dan kienu dahlu nies li m'humiex studenti.
Massimo Gatt
Feb 27th, 15:47
To be honest I don't need to be manipulated by anyone to voice my dissatisfaction with Dr Gonzi's administration. We, the students are the future of malta and our opinions do matter. When I voiced my opinion at Mcast, I was made fun of by the PN and its media.
Francis Saliba M.D.
Feb 27th, 17:07
@ Massimo Gatt
It can be surmised from your comment that the opinion expressed by you ridiculed the Prime Minister whose party provided you with a technical institute and a stipend, whereas your MLP abolished them. Labourites insist on their right to criticise (granted) but resent being criticised (stupid).
It is a principle of physics that action and reaction are equal and opposite.
