Fenech in libel case

The directors of Intershore Fiduciary Services Ltd have filed a libel suit against Finance Minister Tonio Fenech for alleging they were behind the oil scandal.

Joseph Cordina, who has just stepped down as financial controller of the Labour Party, Carmel Scerri and Martin Fenech, a former PN candidate, said it was not true that they had any involvement in bribe money paid for the purchase of oil by Enemalta, as alleged by Minister Fenech.

Separately, Mr Cordina sued the editor of In-Nazzjon, Alex Attard, over an article that appeared last Friday entitled The MLP Financial Administrator Behind the Oil Scandal.

The article falsely claimed he was involved in bribery over Enemalta’s oil procurement, he said.

He can say nothing. He made a case built on sand and he, as an accountant, knows what the situation really is. These guys will win enormous damages which I hope Fenech will pay personally and not by us taxpayers. Bondi triesd to convince us last night but the parts I saw really showed the confusion he had, mixing fraud with corruption. But his point was to stick the oil scandal on the LP.
