Muscat promises legislation to facilitate growth of online gaming industry

A new Labour government would give the online gaming industry the necessary support through legislation that would facilitate growth, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this morning.

Speaking during a visit to the Betsson AB Offices in Ta Xbiex, Dr Muscat stressed the importance of further development and expansion of the sector, which he said was also bound by European legislation.

I thought that Labour was against the Gaming Industry....They always toned down the success of the government in promoting this industry locally.
Another U-turn?

The EU issue is now water under the bridge! In addition please note that after the referendum all MEP Elections were won hands down by the PL with the most recent one giving a result of 4 MEPs out of 6 against 2. Now that speaks volumes and it goes to show that people have moved on!

The online gaming market is thriving throughout the world, not just in the EU and certainly not just in Malta.

Gaming is thriving because it is the only profitable business in Europe and some do come here but you can find them all over.

In Malta they come because our English speaking workers can be paid lower salaries. In other countries, proficient English speakers demand much higher wages. But 90% of workers are foreigners and these combine work with a beach holiday atmosphere.

And the 10% tax helps.
