Michela Loporto was recently awarded a PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, following her research in the area of psychophysiology.

Dr Loporto obtained her Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) from the University of Malta in 2005 and went on to read for a Master of Science in Sport Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2007.

She then began her doctoral research, under the supervision of Prof. Paul Holmes in 2008, which was partly funded by the Malta Government Scholarship Scheme.

Her doctoral thesis was entitled Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Action Observation: Exploring Methodological Issues.

Her research, which investigated the activity of the motor system during observation of simple hand actions, which has applications in injury and stroke rehabilitation, was presented at national and international conferences in Italy and the UK, as well as part of guest lecturing on a European Master’s programme in Poland and Malta.

Dr Loporto is now part of the research and academic staff at the Institute for Performance Research at Manchester Metropolitan University.
