KPMG in Malta has developed its own mobile application for iPhone and iPad, Blackberry and Android devices in a bid to disseminate a broad range of content to various key groups locally and overseas.

“The KPMG Malta app project started off with the consideration that everything around us is changing. When you think that sales of tablets in general are this year expected to surpass those of notebook computers for the first time, trends are truly shifting,” KPMG advisory services partner Mark Bamber told The Sunday Times.

“Most of the research we examined shows that it is not just business people but most people who are increasingly using mobile devices.”

The app’s content is aimed at international investors examining Malta’s potential, existing local and overseas clients in a range of sectors, potential employees, and even former alumni – in keeping with KPMG’s spirit of community.

It is designed to help fulfill KPMG’s role as an investment promoter, service provider, an employer of choice – besides its staff, the firm has 150 contracted University students – and a former employer.

Mr Bamber explained that the app was designed to extend the reach of the firm’s external communication and complement its existing channels, including its portal, its social media presence and its publications like the annual Insight.

The app allows users to receive and view KPMG-related news, job listings, events, financial services information, markets and industry articles.

Produced locally, the app features a collection of tools and features, and allows users to download content, contact authors directly and view relevant videos and web pages online.

It contains varied business, accounting and tax-related content which can be shared through social media networks and by e-mail. Content is grouped according to disciplines or industries, including chemicals and pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, legal and ICT. Various functionalities also include automatic notification and every content piece carries KPMG contacts.

We wanted to share the wealth of information provided by KPMG globally

The KPMG Malta app is available for free download from the App store, Android Market and Blackberry App World.

“In our business, very often it is not a question of marketing KPMG’s services but rather of marketing Malta,” Mr Bamber added.

“It is a question of exciting an overseas investor about the prospects of doing business in Malta. Besides satisfying the information requirements of the project’s key target groups about Malta and forwarding KPMG publications, we also wanted to share the wealth of information provided by KPMG globally.

“There is so much important research about trends in various regions, all of which is highly relevant to what is happening in Malta.”

The app infrastructure is managed by a small in-house team which links to other teams across KPMG’s functions and expertise to leverage all the firms’ resources in generating and sharing information.

Mr Bamber said the firm has already seen considerable interest in the app, soon after it went live and with the marketing campaign in its first stages.
