Workers at the troubled Spanish airline Iberia stormed Barajas airport in Madrid as they began a five-day strike in protest at planned cuts to jobs and salaries.

The action follows Iberia's merger with British Airways in 2011.

The combined International Airlines Group has been trying to revamp its Spanish operation ever since.

This is the latest in a string of disputes and the biggest yet - it involves pilots, cabin crew and baggage handlers.

Iberia reported a loss of 262 million euros in the first nine months of 2012 and is planning to cut its workforce by 20%.
