Labour leader Joseph Muscat had a lot to answer on the drug case related to a PL club and his defence of his deputy leader Toni Abela, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi told journalists this morning.

Speaking at the end of a visit to the Higher Secondary School in Naxxar, Dr Gonzi said that now that it has been shown that Dr Muscat knew about the drug case, he should explain why this case was not reported to the police.

The prime minister said that while Labour was trying to throw mud at the government on the oil commissions case, the PN has shown that it was serious and immediately reported such cases to the competent authorities for investigation.

But it was now becoming apparent that  labour did the contrary and tried to conceal information.

He said that even Labour candidate Manuel Mallia had many explanations to make over his possible involvement in the oil commissions saga when he was legal counsel to the Farrugia brothers - owners of John's Garage and the company involved in the commissions for oil procurement.

Dr Gonzi said that he could not understand why Labour seemed to be so uncomfortable with the conditional presidential pardon given to one of the Farrugia brothers in order for the whole truth to emerge.

During his tour of the school Dr Gonzi was given an enthusiastic welcome by a large group of students.
