The police said today that they are questioning a man as part of their investigation into the murder yesterday of 65-year-old Ronald Galea, the owner of a meat processing factory.

Galea was shot eight times outside his factory in Hal Far and was hit in the heart and the lungs.

The man under arrest is in his 30s and is involved in the same line of work as Mr Galea, Assistant Police Commissioner Pierre Calleja.

He said the man fitted the description given by an eyewitness. Gun residue tests are being held to determine if the man had fired a gun.

The police are appealing to anyone having any information to come forward in confidence.

Mr Calleja said the semi-automatic pistol used in the crime, as well as the getaway car, have not been found yet.

The motive still has to be determined.
