GWU directive to Foreign Ministry officers
The GWU has ordered the Officers at the Foreign Ministry not to use their duty mobile phone and duty laptop after their normal working hours.
The union complained that these Officers were being asked to take the duty mobile phone and laptop home so that they could receive and answer telephone calls and emails from the time they left their office until they returned.
These officers were being asked to work with this system on a weekly based roster.

People believe that officers at this ministry get a prestigous wage..in fact its a very average one, difficult to rise in scale and the ministry is severely understaffed. The duty phone is alot of responsibility stress and pressure which should be duly rewarded, especially because it entails dedicating nights and weekends.

All Ministries of Foreign Affairs work on this roster basis, some of them not getting any compensation whatsoever in return but is part and parcel of their Foreign Office duties. Is this the competitive, first class Malta that all citizens want?

Il-gvern stess ihaddem xoghol prekarju ghax veru dawn l-officers iridu jahdmu gimgha lejl u nhar ghal allowance ta 50 euros ghall-gimgha shiha minghajr mistrieh bil-lejl. Fejn hi l-UHM biex tghidilna taqbilx ma' dan il-hmieg. Mhux ta' b-xejn kulhadd qed jitlaq il-foreign Affairs , ghax n-nies stmati taz-zibel u hadd m'ghandu say. F'dan id-dipartiment smajna affarijiet strambi .

If these officers do not want to work "on call" then they cannot expect a posting overseas. An alternative to this problem would be that the officer on duty reports for work at the Ministry "after office hours" thus he/she will not be on call and those not need to make use of duty mobile or laptop.

Why don't YOU treat YOUR security officers in a similar way, Tony Zarb? We ALL heard about the 'precarious' conditions YOU made them work in, which, according to you, they accepted as at their advantage! I wonder whether these workers need a 'pushup' as well!

Issa naraw jek taghmillx l istess meta jkun hemm il Labour fil Gvern...
Sa ftit snin ilu il GWU stess kienet thallas l overtime lis-security guards b rata inqas milli suppost, u meta fethu halqhom qaltilhom "jew hekk jew indahlu lil haddiehor"..
Imbasta l-haddiem l ewwel u qabel kollox..
