The police have arrested two men after the Armed Forces of Malta seized 39 boxes, containing a total of 390,000 cigarettes suspected to be contraband, from a boat southwest of Malta.

An AFM plane on patrol spotted two vessels acting suspiciously some 35 nautical miles out.

The suspect vessel was intercepted by P02, one of the newly-acquired rigid hull inflatable boats commissioned just three days ago, and escorted to shore, the AFM said.
