Many of us in Senglea together with Flimkien Għal Ambjent Aħjar fought hard and long last autumn to save 44 mature trees from the chop at the Senglea marina.

When, eventually, the decision was made we rejoiced, momentarily though because other urban trees were continuing to be removed indiscriminately in a number of other towns and villages: Valletta, Mellieħa, Floriana, Marsa, Msida, the list is endless.

But we were right to rejoice in silence. Look at the pictures with this letter. This is what it means assuring us that they will not chop down the trees…

Who is accountable for this sheer maltreatment of these trees? Can the Ministry of Transport and the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation be held responsible for these environmental crimes? If so, what is the procedure that we can follow to make them, first, stop immediately this brutality and, second, make them pay the Senglea residents for depriving us of good healthy trees?

Please advise.
