Athleta 80
Floriana 67

(14-17, 17-24, 24-18, 25-8)

Athleta A to Z Electronics secured their third honour of the season after coming from behind to beat Floriana Francesco Fenech 80-67 in a keenly-contested BOV Knock-Out final yesterday.

The champions showed resilience as they overhauled a 15-point deficit in the third session before dominating the final quarter.

The early exchanges belonged to Athleta who went 7-2 ahead but Floriana, inspired by Matt Glass, regrouped to turn the score in their favour by half-time, 41-31.

Bolstered by their second-session performance, Floriana looked on their way to win as they opened a 15-point advantage, 50-35, but Athleta refused to lie down.

As rushed conclusions and mistakes crept into Floriana’s game, Athleta, driven on by Marco Todorovic and Kirsten Baldacchino, took advantage to narrow the gap to four points going into the last 10 minutes, 59-55.

Floriana’s hopes were dashed as Athleta produced a 16-0 scoring run in the last quarter to seal their win.

Glass was the game’s top scorer with 29 points, one more than Athleta’s Todorovic.

At the end of the game, BOV’s chief officer Peter Perotti presented the KO cup to Omar Said, the Athleta captain.
