The Maltese pool national team is currently in England for the European Championship which will be staged at the Imperial Hotel, Blackpool.

This will be the 15th time that the Maltese team will be taking part in the European Cham-pionship with the players to represent the country this time round being Antoine Cuschieri, Clayton Attard, Mario Cutajar, Ray Caruana, Johan Attard and Phillip Coleiro under the guidance of Carmel Cilia.

The teams vying for the title in Blackpool are Malta, England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ire-land, France, Morocco, Channel Islands, Wales and Belgium.

Malta won the European title twice before, in 2002 and 2008.

The Malta Pool Association contingent in England is led by general secretary Vincent Degiorgio who also occupies the post of treasurer within the European governing body of the sport.

The championship, with the participation of 372 players, includes team and individual events for men, women, juniors, U-21s, seniors and disabled competitors with a prize fund of £17,000 to be played for.
