The Malta Tourism Authority’s German office was recently awarded the tourism trophy Globus Award. The awards ceremony, dubbed as Globus Night, was organised by top German national travel trade magazine Touristik Aktuell.

The MTA’s office was given this award for the third time over the past four years. This year the office ranked as Germany’s second best tourism board for the excellent service extended to the travel trade. Malta achieved this standing among big tourism players, such as Australia and Spain, which ranked first and third respectively.

Around 1,500 travel agents from over 500 German travel agencies voted for the Globus Award. Their voting patterns reflected their actual experiences with the tourist boards and also how their needs were addressed.

The voting process was overseen by an esteemed panel of tourism professionals.

For this year’s accolade, the MTA’s German office was rewarded for its full engagement with the travel trade, for the creative travel agent familiarisation trips to Malta and its excellent sales support.

Commenting on the award, Joe Galea, director of international marketing, said: “We are very proud of this award, as Malta has beaten off strong competition from a shortlist of some of the world’s most high- profile destinations. The award once more shows the great enthusiasm and commitment of our team in promoting Malta in the German market.”
