In the run-up to 2018 when Valletta becomes the European Capital of Culture, an event on the development of Malta’s creative industries will be held on Thursday.
Themed ‘The way forward towards the development of the Maltese creative industries’, the event is organised by the European Commission Representation in Malta and Bank of Valletta, in collaboration with the Creative Economy Working Group and the Malta Business Bureau.
Following the European Commission’s Financial Framework 2014-2020, considerable importance has been given to the European creative industries.
The programme is labelled Creative Europe at EU level and an amount of €1.8 billion is directed to it, which includes investment aid directed to small businesses in the Capital of Culture Industries.
The workshop will provide a discussion among stakeholders that kicks off by the economic viability of the creative sector of the Maltese islands and the context of this sector within the European Union.
The agenda includes the potential of the creative industries in encouraging innovation and industrial change in Malta, any market failure faced by the creative sector, and the new forms of financing for creative industries. The discussion also comprises the preparatory phases for the CCIs towards the Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture and the extent to which spillover effects from creative industries may affect other sectors. Particular importance is given to the culture and media strands.
The event will be held at Europe House, Valletta. For reservations contact Bank of Valletta’s EU Business Development Department at eubiz@bov.com or call 2275 1509.
