Hundreds of people of all ages gathered in front of the Zabbar Parish Church this afternoon for a mass meeting with a difference - it was held by independent candidate Nazzareno Bonnici, tal-Ajkla.

Those attending created a very festive atmosphere cheering and shouting throughout. A number wore a black t-shirt with a yellow eagle suspended in flight and the name Bonnici Nazzareno, also in yellow, at the bottom.

A number of girls also sported elaborately painted eagles on their faces.

As he addressed the people from the stage which had purposely been set up, Mr Bonnici, carried a large ornamental eagle which he jolted into the air as he made his points.

“Not even AD have as many people as I have today..., he boasted. The bad sound system which made it difficult to understand most of what he was saying, made no difference to the cheering which went on anyway.

Mr Bonnici expressed shock at the nudist beaches proposal of the Liberal Party, whose sole candidate is, like himself, contesting the second district. To the people’s delight he also said that he planned to hold another two meetings - one in Gozo and one on the Granaries.

Mr Bonnici said that he wanted to develop a village on Comino and a bridge, rather than a tunnel, connecting Malta to Gozo.

He again mentioned the sea-water operated power station, this time saying that the salt that would result as a by-product would be sold.

He appealed to constituents on the second district to support him with their vote.
