Vodafone will invest €59 million in the next five years, slightly more than the €55 million it spent over the past half-decade.

“This is because we are happy with the results of our investment,” chief financial officer Michel Macelli said yesterday.

He spoke during a visit by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to Vodafone’s new offices at Sky Parks, Luqa.

Mr Macelli said the offices housed 280 employees and were designed to reflect the company’s spirit and culture.

Dr Gonzi was struck by the modern design of the offices and joked with some of the workers he was tempted to work there himself.

He said Vodafone’s investment was a categorical statement of the company’s belief in the country. Vodafone and Malta had a good historic relationship, he added.

Dr Gonzi praised the company for creating a comfortable, informal and paperless work environment. He also lauded its investment in training its staff.

The Prime Minister added that the country should not lose faith in its ability to create 25,000 jobs in the next legislature.
