The homeless young man, who floored and kicked a police inspector in court on Wednesday, apologised for his behaviour yesterday.

Luke Bugeja, 27, admitted to assaulting Police Inspector Saviour Baldacchino and violently resisting arrest moments after he was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to violently resisting arrest on Tuesday in another case. He was first arraigned last week and admitted to damaging a CCTV camera belonging to Dar Leopoldo home in Ġzira.

His legal aid lawyer, Martin Fenech, told the court that, save for the past few days, Mr Bugeja had never been to court. He said that his client had been dealt a bad card in life because he lost his parents at such a young age and ended up homeless and in a shelter.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti put the case off for sentencing on Monday.
