The number of people in full-time employment rose by almost 1,669 in September to reach 152,483 workers.

Employment and Training Corporation data showed the number of registered unemployed also increased by 315, to 6,869 people, when compared with the totals in September 2011.

Full-time employment within the administration and support services and within the health and social work sectors grew by 801 and 400, respectively.

On the other hand, employment in manufacturing dropped by 305, the National Statistics Office said.

Jobs in the private sector were up by 1.7 per cent, or 1,882 people, and amounted to 73.2 per cent of total full-time employment.

Public sector employment fell by 0.5 per cent, or 213 people, when compared with September 2011.

The highest increase in the private sector was recorded in the administrative and support services.

Public sector employment in the transportation and storage sectors dropped of 9.8 per cent.

In September last year, female full-time employment rose by 3.2 per cent, reaching a total of 52,760, compared to the corresponding month in 2011.

During the month under review, the number of self-employed rose by nearly one per cent.

Year-on-year, part-time employment went up by 5.4 per cent, or 2,841 people, to 55,369. The highest increase was recorded within the accommodation and food services.
