The Tourism and Sustainable Development Unit is accepting applications for Call 4, which falls under the EU Grant Scheme for Sustainable Tourism Projects by Enterprises.

The scheme aims to direct funds towards more economic development in the tourism sector and is open to all establishments interested in implementing a tourism-related project.

All eligible undertakings operating with a valid licence include, but are not limited to, accommodation and catering establishments, travel agencies, tour operators, creative industries, museums and heritage sites, sport centres, language learning centres and diving schools.

Sustainable tourism projects submitted for consideration should be aimed at strengthening Malta’s competitive edge in the tourism sector on the strength of product upgrades and investments in equipment, investments in environment-friendly measures, investments in ICT, and investments in entrepreneurship and marketing. The scheme is open to all businesses which satisfy a number of criteria.

The level of aid extended depends on the firm’s size. Up to 50 per cent will be granted to small enterprises employing fewer than 50 employees with an annual turnover and balance total which is less or equal to €10 million.

Up to 40 per cent will be extended to medium-sized enterprises employing fewer than 250 employees with an annual turnover which is less or equal to €50 million and balance sheet total which is less or equal to €43 million. Up to 30 per cent for large enterprises employing more than 250 employees with an annual turnover which is greater than € 50 million and balance sheet total which is greater than €43 million.
