Security printing company De La Rue has informed its 600 employees in Malta that it will be conducting a restructuring process aimed at making the Malta plant more competitive, thus securing its long-term viability.

The restructuring will include a review of work practices, with some layoffs not being ruled out.

The company has also written to the GWU and the political parties about its situation.

The company carried out similar exercises in other plants abroad in order to reduce costs and enable them to handle periods of low orders.
