The Pope's resignation came with a dose of good humour locally and abroad.

Here are some of the facebook memes doing the rounds.

It's a good thing that you don't have a say in this, its just a joke about a man.... grow up.

I think you need to lighten up a little bit, personally I welcome these types of articles from a national newspapers it's a nice break from all the childish political bickering between political parties.

I don't know if you noticed but even though they're, as you yourself put it, in bad taste, you still read the article and browsed through them...

If you're offended don't read!

LOL!

I find that they ridicule the others and not the Pope.

I beg to differ. The jokes absolutely do not ridicule the Pope or offend Catholicism. The memes ridicule public figures who may replace the Pope. What's wrong with promoting them on national newspapers? Had "The Times" blog disregarded them, its readers would have missed a glorious opportunity to have a good laugh at the expense of these renowned figures.

Grow up Mr Gatt! We need a nice break.

@Louis Gatt:

"The Public" do not have a belief.
The same as the Government should not be allowed to tell you what religion you should to follow.

Your beliefs and your Religion are your own private issues and have nothing to do with the rest of the country.

And if the editor of a national newspaper wishes to print humour, then so be it. It made many more chuckle than frown, I would guess.

I have great respect for the Pope and especially his office but please do lighten up. I'm sure if the Pope himself had to see these joke he'll just seen them as harmless digs .. if anything aimed not at him but at others. Do grow up!
