Santos: Arsenal left-back Andre Santos has joined Brazilian club Gremio for the remainder of the season after becoming surplus to requirements. The 29-year-old, who joined Arsenal in 2011, has made 36 appearances for the Gunners although he has struggled to adjust to the demands of English football.

Villa: Barcelona striker David Villa has been admitted to hospital yesterday with kidney stones. A club statement said: “The club’s medical services have announced that David Villa was admitted to hospital due to a nephritic colic infection. The player will undergo kidney stone treatment in the coming hours. “David is doubtful for the match against Granada on Saturday.”

Keller: Schalke coach Jens Keller has been told his position is safe until the end of the season despite the side slumping to their lowest league position of the campaign. Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich saw Schalke drop to 10th spot. Schalke’s director of sport Horst Heldt said: “Jens Keller was not on the pitch at Bayern. He will remain our coach until the end of the season.”

Grosseto: Serie B club Grosseto fired coach Leonardo Menichini. The defeat to Crotone proved to be the final straw for Menichini’s Grosseto career, although he had only taken over in mid-December. Reports say Francesco Moriero will return to the bench, as he had started the season.

Paciencia: Deportivo La Coruna have parted company with coach Domingos Paciencia after just six weeks in charge. The decision came in the wake of Saturday’s 3-0 home loss to Granada, a defeat which left the Galicians two points adrift at the foot of the standings.

Commons: Kris Commons, of Celtic, tried to deride Juventus for training at Rangers ahead of today’s match in Glasgow. “Juve can train in my back garden, it would make no difference,” he said. “If they want to prepare at a Division Three training ground then let them get do it.”
