Interview - Engineers for change
Interview - Engineers for change
Nationalist candidate Ryan Callus thinks politics needs to have more engineers like himself.
He tells Christian Peregin in an interview that he wants to help his party keep changing the country.
'It is best to have a diverse mix of all the professions that represent our society. I think engineers are more pragmatic. They tend to go straight to the solution. Politicians are often criticised for not being pragmatic.'

It's not the profession or the age but the character that makes the man. In the past elections, we have had a lot of emphasis on choosing younger, "new" politicians who in the end, were shown to be cast in the old mould of the Maltese political class.

Yet we have to admit that our political system is overloaded with lawyers.

@ Ryan Callus - Are you aware that the PN threw out capable people like Joseph Falzon and Carmel Cacopardo from the Mepa Audit Office because their uprightness and professionalism did not please the PN's bosom friends the building speculators?
Why did the PN castigate Franco Debono when it could use his abilities and zeal in Constitutional and Justice Reform?

As a Nationalist candidate and engineer, does Ing. Callus believe that we do not need more electricity generation capacity? Will he follow Ing. Mark Anthony Sammut (PN) and regurgitate what his party says.
As an engineer myself, I do welcome engineer candidates but they have to be able to speak out their own mind. Otherwise, it might just be another candidate with a another profession.
