Blizzard slams into Canada's east coast
A record-breaking blizzard that slammed the northeastern United States has moved into Atlantic Canada.
The storm brought whiteout conditions to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
Stretching from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Coast, the mammoth stormed dumped more than three feet of snow in places, cutting power to at least 700,000 homes and businesses in North America.
At least half a dozen deaths were also attributed to the blizzard.
Meteorologists said the storm was expected to dissipate as it moved from west to east.

Iris, Maybe you were here the year Mayor Lastman called in the army to help with snow removal?
I'm a Maltese ex-pat who's been living in this kind of weather not just for one year but for 34.... there's others who are here much longer than I. Holidays in Malta in May yes but I'd rather push 2feet of snow with my blower than be broiled in the August sun in Malta. Yes I'm a retired senior too.

1. Dear John, lets not be jealous now :) I think both places have their pros and cons... Malta just has many more pros then Canada! Im sure that in 1979 when you left Malta Canada looked pleasant but today Malta has become the envy of many. And if we want to compare weather then thats not even a starter as everyone knows that Malta has the healtiest weather. The average temperature in August

N.Pace,
I've got central air conditioning for the 30 degree weather we have in Summer here but I wouldn't like to sleep in the cold humid houses in Malta during winter. Here we have central heating for the cold that you mentioned in winter. ;)

Welcome to the lovely Sunny Canada, where the sea is blue, & the people are the friendliest ever, not bloody likely, we move to Malta from Canada to get away from that horrible arctic weather- here we stay, people that emigrate to these countries including the gun happy USA - if they are looking for Paradise better think twice, Paradise is here in Malta as far as we are concern, and that's final.

I must admit this year has been a bad year for the US & Canada, the worse years ever since records begun, i can just imagine, as i lived in Toronto for a year, but couldn't stick the place & the country as a whole, until a Maltese friend of ours advised us to retire in Malta so here we are and never look back since, i love the hot sunny weather, the clear blue sea and above all the friendly islanders
