Sliema ferries €1m project excluded sea water flooding
A €1 million project at the Sliema Ferries did not even attempt to solve the seawater flooding problem there, Transport Malta has admitted.
It said solving the seawater flooding problems at the Ferries whenever the level of seawater changes did not fall within the remit of this project but was included in the planned underground car park project.
Transport Malta has so far spent in excess of €950,000 to upgrade the promenade and the state of the roads at the Sliema Ferries.
A spokesman said the seawater flooding problems had to be solved through “attenuation measures” from the waterside edge.
“Such interventions lay outside the remit of the present road upgrade project works,” the spokesman said.

Why am I not surprised?
I Senglea, 1.8m euros are being spend on a new marina which we did not need, as we already had one! We needed a stormwater relief plan...and yes you guessed it..that we didn t get! And good solid benches are being thrown away and substituted with new ones! At least the ones we had were under the trees for shade...trees that are now very damaged! What a waste of money!

I personally think this is a scandal, nothing short of that. How can Transport Malta 'upgrade the promenade and the state of the roads at the Sliema Ferries' without addressing the problem resulting from sea water flooding in the area?
The Minister responsible needs to explain this serious shortcoming to taxpayers.

Dont worry TM, us tax payers will no doubt fork the bill for "attenuation measures" that will be needed to stop the fllooding. After all you could not be blamed for not doing anything about something u dont understand.
And we will have to pay another €1M to re-do the tarmac and sidewalk after the AM measures are effected.....looking forward to the under'sea' car park c/w AM measures.

Nort taking into consideration that the asphalting stopped at the Nazzarenu church leaving the rest up to the ex-water disillination plant undone and which happens to be the bumpiest.
Also new asphalt can be seen being dug into again at the ferries.
Sliema residents should note this when they go to vote how gonzipn wasrtes money to catch their vote. But then I'm sure will fall on deaf ears.

The sheer incompetence of those working on and the time taken on this project beggars belief . That such a tiny area of Sliema can take so long for what now transpires is a simple re-asphalting project is tantamount to criminal waste of time and resources. And let's all be honest.. if/when an underground (below sea level) car park is ever built there.. would you entrust your car there??

Sliema is suffering from unsustainable overdevelopment with the consequential Sliema Traffic Problems and therefore badly needs the long overdue Sliema Holistic Traffic Management Plan which would identify causes and remedies to the prevaling traffic probelms

"A €1 million project at the Sliema Ferries did not even attempt to solve the seawater flooding problem there, Transport Malta has admitted."
Regrettably Transport Malta has again opted in favour of a half baked project. Similarly it seems that TM is projecting an underground car park without upgrading the prevailing overloaded traffic capacilty of the access roads (Sliema - Gzira -Strand)

Only the asphalting and the upgrading of the promenade is visible by the passers-by, who will eventually vote next month.
