Pain in the rain for Carnival organiser, but he says the date should not be moved
Paul Curmi, a man synonymous with Malta's Carnival, has spoken of his pain whenever the weather disrupts the festival.
But, he told Sarah Carabott, he still feels that Carnival should continue to be held in its proper date.
(The video was recorded a few days ago. Today's defile' in Valletta was called off because of the weather)

I lived most of my childhood in Valletta and know exactly why Mr Curmi should bee "synonymous" with carnival, but I am sure not all of your readers do. Dear TOM, don't you think this article is just a little bit on the threadbare side?

What are we waiting to honour this person? Should we honour him when it is too late? If there is a person meriting that 'Valletta ambassador of Culture' thing is this person.

Many feasts in Malta were celebrated in winter, but because of the weather feasts are now celebrated on a small scale on the actual feast day of the patron saint, and on a large scale in summer. Similarly we can have a winter carnival with King Carnival float and parades, and a full scale Summer Carnival with large floats. This will ensure a Carnival spirit throughout the year.:)

This is self inflicted pain. The chance of having rain and wind in February is around 95%. Organisers cannot grumble with nature. But they can change the date. Weather is uncontrolable. The date is.

Paul Curmi etc.
Why not move Carnival to a date in April / May? The weather won't be that hot and inclement weather would possibly be avoided. As for the Rio Carnival I don't think that is celebrated in winter but I stand to be corrected.
Such a shame that festivities often do not happen as a result of bad weather.
As for tourists, more are here in April / May than at the beginning of February
