Fans die: A bus carrying fans of a Chilean soccer team has plunged into a ravine, killing 16 people. Fire department officials say most of those who died in yesterday’s crash are 13 to 18 years old. One is an infant a few months old. In all, 21 people are reported injured. The bus was carrying fans of the O’Higgins team back from a match the squad won against Huachipato de Talcahuan.
Roma: Pablo Osvaldo and Leandro Castan have both declared themselves fit to play for Roma in today’s away trip to Sampdoria after picking up injuries during training last week. Both Osvaldo and Castaldo were included in the travelling party by interim coach Aurelio Andreazzoli but Federico Balzaretti and Mattia Destro are unavailable due to injury.
Gameiro: Wellington Phoenix have added some depth to their squad with Fulham striker Corey Gameiro joining the club on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old shot to prominence at the U-19 AFC championship, scoring all six of Australia’s goals at the tournament to help them qualify for the 2013 U-20 World Cup. He has never played a senior match for Fulham, but made eight appearances for PSV Eindhoven on a recent loan spell.

Traore: Injured Burkina Faso attacker Alain Traore will return to South Africa to cheer on his team-mates as they take on Nigeria in the Africa Cup, the Burkinabe Football Federation said yesterday. The Lorient forward will fly in for today’s match from France, where he returned last week after suffering a thigh injury in the group stages of the tournament.
