Rugby stadium to be built at Ghajn Dwieli

The government is allocating €7.5 million for the game of rugby, including new stadium facilities at Ghajn Dwieli.

Land for the rugby stadium at Ghajn Dwieli was this morning transferred to the Malta Rugby Football Union along with funds for its development.

The union was also granted the non-exclusive use of three pitches in Marsa along with ancillary facilities including showers, changing rooms and administration rooms.

The deeds were signed between the union and the Malta Council for Sports.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Parliamentary Secretary for Sports Clyde Puli were present.

Mr Puli said this project was the latest of 60 projects carried out in 60 months as part of the government's commitment to improve the people's quality of life.

Ethelbert, once again... this is very different to White Rocks. The land now belongs to the MRFU and it is up to us to develop the project and not the government. Both parties have promised to support it though.

Mr. Brincat, we at the MRFU have been waiting for this day 30 years. That's how long we've been at the negotiations table for a piece of land. Why is this extravagance? We will be developing the site and not the government.

Lawrence, this is very different. The land now belongs to the MRFU and it is up to us to develop the site and not the government. Obviously we are hoping that a future government will contribute financially and both sides have pledged their support.

@Alfred.

U dan ghadu kemm iddikjara li Malta zghira ghal dawn l'affarijiet imma ghal qabel l'ellezzjoni kollox possibbli.

Esempju lampanti hu il progett tal White Rocks.

K.G., the transfer of land was part of the PN's last electoral programme which had to be delivered within 5 years and that's what happened today.
