But had this man killed a jogger in a car accident, the penalty would be "two years in prison, suspended for four". No comment!

I don't think that jail was the best solution for this guy. He was homeless...one year jail for stealing alcohol, harassing a woman etc, is too much. He should pay for what he did, but I think the punishment seems severe.

How did this fellow get into Malta with no visible or viable means of support? If he can get in and stay, while committing several criminal acts, I would fear the adverse effects on the tourism industry that several hundred more of this sort could generate, as well as the associated costs to the society at large and the quality of life to the Maltese citizens.

As a convicted criminal , this gentleman needs to go home, so as not to violate his civil rights to participate in his own society. Additionally, the article does say he relapsed, so how many chances does he get? Keeping in mind his age, by the time he is seventy, he could bankrupt the nation.

Send him to his homeland. He will be happy and we would not waste taxpayers money.

I fully agree with what you said D Mercieca..."help such a person not a year of prison.."! Someone like that all he needed was some help...thats all...judges are too harsh when they want..it seems
I thought there is some figures missing in reading 23 euros!!!!!
Am simply lost for wordssss ...how can this be possible!
As to some other comments I read here honestly they really make me feel sick.
