Former FORUM president John Bencini is insisting that his letter to Nationalist Party general secretary Paul Borg Olivier three years ago was “misinterpreted”.

He said he made no corruption allegations against the Government or the party and, therefore, did not need to withdraw any such claims.

He mentioned the letter when he addressed the PL conference on Wednesday. (See http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20130206/elections-news/john-bencini-gets-standing-ovation-at-pl-conference.456497 )

FORUM, he had written, would “continue to uncover the hypocrisy of your Government, a Government made of a party which has lost all its credibility and where corruption is rife”.

Dr Borg Olivier forwarded the letter to the Police Commissioner for investigation.

Mr Bencini said he never meant to say that the PN was corrupt and he was referring to reports of corruption, particularly the VAT scandal and the Transport Malta licences bribery case.
